Spring recruitment is held the week before classes start each January for Interfraternity Council (IFC) and Panhellenic Council (PHC) organizations. The Membership Intake Process for Multicultural Greek Letter Council (MGLC) organizations happens at various times during the year at the discretion of each group and their national organization.
Parents and students interested in learning more about the sorority and fraternity recruitment and intake processes are invited to participate in a live webinar on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. EST. The webinar will feature members of the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life as well as current sorority and fraternity leaders. It will be recorded for those who cannot attend.

Instead of having formal recruitment in the fall, Cornell chose to hold formal recruitment in the spring semester/January. Deferred recruitment activities for incoming spring freshmen are held off until incoming freshmen have an entire first term at Cornell to focus on building solid and positive academic habits and adjust to college life. We think it is best for this cohort of new students to wait until their second semester at Cornell to be eligible to join a fraternity or sorority. Deferred recruitment for new students was instituted by student and faculty leadership in the 1950s and it will continue to be Cornell’s policy.
